Hey, I want to know is it suitable to use heat cables in the substrate of a planted terr to help maintain the temperatures as my house is cold and lights are not enough????
It depends on if the heat cable is water proof. It also depends on what type of gecko you have. If it's a terrestrial gecko that likes to dig, it probably wouldn't be wise. Also, if it's a planted viv, you're likely to have roots, etc grow around the cable. I'd go with a quality heat tape like flexwatt under the viv (or maybe on the wall depending on the type of gecko). Or your other option is to heat from above with a CHE. No matter what you use, plan on putting it on a thermostat of course.
