Gargoyle Gecko Heating-Lamp v Mat?
Hello everyone
LOG IN TO CLOSE THIS AD

I'm going to soon be a new gargoyle gecko owner
, but I need a heating source and I've read that either a heat lamp or a heating mat would work. Does one work better than another? What are the pros and cons of each? I'm open to all opinions!
I have a screen terrarium, too, btw if that makes any difference.

They generally don't need additonal heat. They are active, eat, breed and shed quite happily at normal room temperatures!

My house gets kind of cold in the winter, usually low 60s, is that okay for them?

In that case, a simple incandescent bulb on a thermostat should work fine for a bit of extra heat. You could use a ceramic heatbulb so that you can still use it at night time, but you'll definitely need a guard for it.
A heatmat should do the job, but won't be ideal as auriculatus don't spend their whole time on or near the floor. It could work quite well as a supplementary heat source, along with an incandescent bulb.
But whatever you decide to use, you'll need a thermostat as well!

You may have a hard time keeping humidity up with a screen terrarium.
