Default E. Agricolae enclosure and UVB question - opinions needed

Hi,

I am currently awaiting 1 hatchling E. Agricolae and was thinking about using this product:

http://www.pangeareptile.com/store/i...6&window=popup

The footprint is 8in W x 8in D x 12in H and comes with a compact hood. I was planning on adding a 2nd gecko to this enclosure sometime in the future. Would this be big enough for a pair or even a trio?

Now my one concern is that I heard this species does better when provided a UVB. I found an Exo-terra 13watt 2.0 UV bulb. Would this bulb which would be layed directly on top of this enclosure provide too much heat since it is such a small footprint? I understand that this gecko's temperature requirements are the same as a crested gecko. Once it gets past 80 degrees, not good!

Thanks for your imput.

CFL bulbs do create some heat, mainly from the built-in ballast.

In a hood covered glass enclosure the temps can become elevated if there is no other place for the heat to go.

How much heat the enclosure might gain depends on a range of factors, I don't feel able to say it would be good or bad only that heat is produced by the ballast and could increase the enclosure temperature.

find a 7 watt CFL and you're set. The nano would be good for a few juvies, or a single adult. My pairs are kept in 12x12x12 ZooMed tanks and it's plenty of room for them.

One thing, depending on the size/age of your hatchling, you might want to consider using a smaller tank - like a kritter keeper with the large holes plugged. They are delicate geckos when they're young.
