As an alternative to Cresties or Gargoyle's you could try Mossy gecko's (Rhacodactylus Chahoua Chahoua) these are similiar to look after as cresties and gargoyle's and give you some experience before moving onto leaf tails or alternatively you could try one of the giant species of day gecko (Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis) or (Phelsuma madagascariensis kochi) these require some more thought higher humidity and are a look not touch gecko but overall are not difficult to keep , but again make sure you head towards one of the giant species as many of the Phelsumas are very delicate due to size
