Default crested gecko question

i have a New crested gecko that is a couple months old and I have only seen her eat when I am hand feeding her. Will a crested gecko eat only when you feed them, or will they eat anytime and I'm just not seeing it happen? Or maybe since she's not very old yet she doesn't know how to eat by herself yet? Please give me some answers.

Thanks

Yeah that appears to have been a spammer.

Does your crestie poop? I have read that it is hard to tell if they are eating the CGD. Are you feeding her that? From what I have read that is their main staple food and then they get an occasional live cricket as a treat like once a week. I don't have any so I am just going by what I have read.

Since your crestie is only a couple months old, you may not notice much gone from the food bowl. Babies do not clean their bowls like the adults can, they have very tiny stomachs so you might notice a couple lick marks in the bowl (or you might not). What you need to look for is very tiny poops, they are about 1/2 the size of a grain of rice, sometimes even smaller. As they get older/bigger then it is much easier to find their poops. If you notice a bit of white on the poop, that is ok..that is the urate (aka pee). They will not starve themselves, so be patient. Best to change the CGD every other night. Some like the CGD fresh and some like it 1-2 days old.

Yes they are very little as babies. My babies that I hatch start on cgd from the beginning. But you could try only putting a little cgd in like a baby food jar cap and spreading the diet out to make it as thin as possible. You might see some licks. But definately keep looking for poops. That's how I know some of the really little guys are eating. Look on any leaves in the cage or cage decor it may not just be on the floor.
