Question Recommended gargoyle diet?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of getting a gargoyle gecko and am trying to learn as much about them as I can. Unfortunately, a lot of the information I've read is pretty contradictory, especially with regards to proper feeding.

Could someone please recommend me a good diet for a young gargoyle? I've seen baby food both lauded and discouraged, seen various dietary supplements mentioned and have been suggested a wide variety of invertebrates. What sort of food should make up the bulk of the gecko's diet, and what sort of supplements should I be looking into?

Thanks so much! I just registered here, and have already learned quite a bit about these wonderful animals (:

In my opinion, your best bet would be Crested Gecko Diet (CGD) as a primary food and crickets or roaches as well, if you like. I feed both my crested gecko and my gargoyle CGD 3 times a week and crickets dusted with Repashy Calcium plus twice a week.

Thanks for the advice, Aliza. About how much CGD do you feed your geckos in a day? Do geckos generally stop eating when they're full, or is it possible to overfeed them?

We mix the crested gecko diet in with motts apple sauce's, and feed 3 small crickets a week. I change the apple sauce every couple days to keep it fresh. I found the same thing when we first got our gargoyle.

Pure Repashy CGD or Clarks gecko diet should be the only thing you feed your garg. The only exception is calcium dusted crickets or roaches once a week.

Adding apple sauce makes the CGD sweeter, but it dilutes the vitamins and nutrients in the CGD. CGD is a complete diet and is not meant to have anything added to it. Also most apple sauce has quite a bit of sugar and other stuff added to it that isn't good for the geckos. I would recommend decreasing the amount of apple sauce gradually, putting less in less in every night until there eating pure CGD.

I use 1/2 tsp CGD and 1 tsp water. I have never actually seen my garg eat and she definitely doesn't finish her CGD, but at a year and a half she's 38 grams and looks very healthy.

Mine go back and forth between eating bug and not, but they always have an appetite for CGD. I have several geckos to feed so I mix 1/2 cup CGD with 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon of calcium because they're breeding.

With all the new flavors of MRP out now I'm anxious to see what gargoyles prefer. I've given mine crushed bananas in their CGD and they seemed to love them. Strawberries are the next experiment...
