Gravid gargoyle gecko? -how long till they lay?
My Rhacodactylus auriculatus is a 6yr-old female who's never been with a male. I adopted her a year ago from a family who'd kept her with no heating or lighting, and they said she had stopped feeding. She seemed thin.
I gave her a little extra warmth (75 - 85F in the basking zone) and gentle UVB, and she started feeding at once, on crickets and fruit puree. Over the winter she gained weight and ate well, but in the early spring she filled out even more and for the last 3 months she's gotten huge, here is a photo taken today:
I thought she must be gravid (with infertile eggs) so she has four tubs of compost and/or coco substrate which I keep damp, but she only started to dig once, several weeks ago, just before she shed. But what's really worrying me is that she hasn't eaten anything for at least a month. She's producing urates but of course no fecal material in the droppings.
Is she gravid? And if so, how long is it normally before they lay the eggs? Or is there a problem, and I should take her to our vet? I'm worried about the stress of a long car drive in the daytime.
Please help.
