Default Fruit and CGD for Lygos

I just had to share this, because I'm so amused right now.

On a tip from Switzer reptile, I gave my williamsi some peach baby food with some calcium powder yesterday. They accepted it well, the first time I've seen them eat anything other than insects.

So, today, I mixed in prepared crested gecko diet and peach baby food, 50/50, and offered this to them.
They gravitated to it immediately, and began lapping it up--a lot of it. Then they got ROWDY (never saw anything like it from them before). They started chasing (and occasionally catching) the tiny fungus gnats that came in on the house plants, practically doing flips after them. The male started displaying, and chasing the female all over. They were doing about warp 9, coming back to the bowl for more fruit mix every half hour or so. They went on for hours until the lights were out.

Those were some WIRED geckos...lol....

I recommend this mix to anyone who wants to see these guys zoom.

The sugary addition to their diet has really made a big difference in their activity level--they've always been active, but now they're all over the place. They're much more sedate when eating insects alone. I think it's a very good change, though, I'm seeing more courting behavior, and their colors are much brighter.

Now that they're being given the CGD/peach mix daily, they've calmed back down. I suppose it was that initial sugar rush that they weren't accustomed to--it was REALLY funny, though. I'm going to switch them to straight CGD when the mix runs out--I think they'll accept it now.
