Smile First eggs!

Hi all,

Since I lost the two other williamsi-females, my pair is getting along very well . I saw them mate 3 times now and I discovered a first egg! I saw the female wandering around the exit of the mistingmachine (no worries I closed it off with a net). I saw her entering it a couple of times. But she displays a certain behaviour before laying eggs. She is wandering around in circles on the ceiling of the terrarium.

There is a small PVC pipe on the ceiling and on that I attached the hose of the mistingmachine. Now i put a larger elongated pipe in between, one I can take away if she lays more eggs. Unfortunately I cannot remove this first egg because it is placed in the first piece of PVC and that's glued on the ceiling.

Why would she choose the tube of the mistingmachine to lay her eggs? It is a near the heatsource but the eggs get way to wet? Or can I just leave the eggs there?

What are the temperatures in the terrarium, and what is the temperature where she laid the egg?

Will the egg get wet every time the misting system turns on? (if so then you will have to remove the mister or turn it off the next two-three months)

Did she only lay one egg? the norm is two, but singles do occur.

What is the humidity in the rest of the cage? It sounds like she was seeking the most humid location to lay, so perhaps they want a place with higher humidity, or that is damp, for egg deposition.

Yeah, I think indeed the eggs get wet every time the misting machine runs. Indeed I only found one egg.

The humidity at daytime is always between 70 and 80% and at nighttime above 80%. I have an Exo Terra solarglo 125 watt above the terrarium. Heats up to max 29,5 degrees celsius and at the bottom of the terra it's about 22 degrees. I spray the tank about two times a day with RO water and the mistmachine is running two times a day about 15 minutes. I have to keep it on the humid side because of my poison arrow frogs that live on the bottom of the terra.

If they're glued there, there really is no way to remove them without breaking them. I am not sure they'll survive if they're getting wet.

Hmm, i also think that I cannot remove the egg without damaging it. I ordered a new terrarium which I am going to build up the next couple of weeks. Just because I had to make a lot of adjustments to make it more safe, for example the lights ;-( to this one I bought from the acquaintance. In the new one I hope she chooses another place to lay her eggs. I'm also hoping with moving the pair, I can introduce two new females. What do you guys think? Is it worth the risk to introduce two new females with moving the pair to a new terrarium?

I think introducing them during a move is safer than introducing them if some are already established in a territory.

You could probably cover the misting tube with a piece of fiberglass screen or something.

Yeah I just thought of covering it, then she has to search for another place to lay her eggs. There are a lot of plants and other hide-outs for her.
