Default =D yay BABY L. WILLIAMSI

Hey there,

My name is Josh. I am very new to this forum. I usually am on reef forums and orchid board. So I work for a pet store here in Salt Lake, Utah and earlier this year we got in these really awesome bright blue geckos. So I researched them and discovered the horrible reason of why they were getting imported so cheap and often, due to deforestation in Kimboza and through out Tanzania. So I made a goal. I want to at least provide some captive bred babies.

So a few months ago, I did not really write down the dates , but I saw two eggs pasted in the top of my viv. While inspecting them I opened the door and accidentally squished one of the two eggs . So I had one left.

Well my first clutch and last survivor hatched on the 28th. yahoo.

THE POINT OF THE STORY. I need advise and help raising this little guy I call Monkey lol. I was debating investing in the new Nano terrarium would this be a good idea or should I keep it in the little fruit fly jar terrarium he's in now?
Also feeding???? I've read you can feed them too much and also to always have food available and last, temperature. The parents are pretty happy in their xxl viv but I was too scared to leave little monkey in there alone.

Thank you for any help in advance as this is a shock and pretty exciting to me.
and very very very last, I promise, I can't leave you hangin' without the eye candy lol.

/Josh

Hi,

You will want to get him out of the fruitfly cup asap. You can put him in a nano cube tank, or 5 gallon. Be sure to have a screen on the top which does not have big gaps in the mesh or monkey will try and squeeze through. Half of the screen should be covered to allow for good humidity.

Misting should be done once daily and not anymore than this. All that is needed is a light misting (i see your cup is pretty wet, this can actually drown the baby).

You will want to provide monkey with some UVB light. UVB is very crucial to young lygos. A repti-glo 5.0 and 2.0 lamp will suffice. Make sure not to place the lamps too close to the tank or you will cook him.

Monkey can eat fruitflies, micro crickets, tropical woodlice & springtails. Be sure to dust at every feeding with supplements.

There is a few threads already on raising young, have a look at these for more info.

Get small feeder insects such as fruit flies right away do lots of supplementing. I would also really advise getting gecko MRP. which since you are new here that is Gecko Meal Replacer. This is available online or at trade shows and even some pet stores who carry lots of reptile foods are starting to get these. They are usually made for phelsuma or rhacodactylus geckos but they are eaten by williamsi. This will provide lots of the nutrients needed. I will let someone else chime in on the tank as I think that is a matter of preference. I would say go bigger though.

Okay so I ended up getting the nano exo terra and a small 5.o uvb light for him. Although I have not seen him eat. it is a week today he hatched so I'm hoping he was just fat from the egg. I have been offering mango puree with vitamins and calcium along with a gecko diet I picked up from work that we use for cresteds and day geckos. I also have several cultures of D. Mels so there are a few crawling around. I hope he is just eating when I'm not looking. I also have got a new spray bottle which has a finer mist so I just barely mist it but keep it rather humid. I guess all there is to do is wait and see how it goes. I will continue to gather as much info as I can. Thanks you guys for the input it is GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Well I hope it goes well for you, there needs to be more people in the U.S. having success with these as babies. I know a lot of you Euro guys are doing well with them but it seems like the success isn't great here yet. So anyway good luck i'll have my fingers crossed for you.

Thank you, Thank you.
This is my first clutch and I'm surprised it even hatched. He seems more active with the UV. So things are looking great. If it is a girl I want to find someone to trade for another captive bred so I can mix up the blood line. We will see in time. Thanks to this site tho. So glad I came across it.
