Sphaerodactylus Elegans info
hey everyone, i did some searching online and on here on these cool little geckos. Thinking of picking some up, i have the care pretty much down but still have a few questions. My main question is how aggressive are these guys? The ones i would get would most likely be juveniles so there is a good chance i could end up with more then one male. Will these guys kill each other if kept in more then one male per tank? Also do they need a water dish in the cage at all times? Other then those two questions im pretty much set. Also if anyone wants to post a pic of their setup please do it!! Thanks!!!

Hi,
Yes it is possible for two males to eventually end up killing each other, so they should never be housed together.
Recently I had purchased a pair which ended up being two males. My fault though as I took what i thought was a younger female. One day I noticed the younger one had scales missing on the tail. The next signs I saw was often the older male would go after what I thought was the female. When I witnessed the young male one day go in to the hiding spot of the older one, when the older one approached the younger one came flying mid air out of the hole. I knew then my supposed female was really a young male. Things could have been way worse, but luckily they were not.
In short I guess what i am trying to say is you should keep the two young ones separated once they reach 5 months. :P
With regards to a water dish, I used to have a water dish with a sponge in it and never saw them use it. They always went after the water droplets after I sprayed. So a water dish is not really needed. If you do go with one make sure there is only a few drops in there.
Checkout Willkommen auf www.zwerggeckos.com a lovely website with many pictures and info. It is in german though so you will need to run it through google translator.

I do not have any pics offhand, but I can take some for you tomorrow. Just pardon the lack of growth in the tanks, as I just set them up with plants recently. :P

Pics are taking a pinch longer, sorry. Waiting on a spare glass piece so I can wash their doors and get a good shot. Most of the ones I got are pretty skiddish, so I do not want to risk escapees.

This glass piece is taking forever, someone forgot to mention to the place I even ordered one . Lets see if the 3rd order will be a charm and contain the glass piece.
In the meantime, I will be setting up 3 new sphaero tanks today, so I will document the progress and get them up here tonight.

Ok here is some pics. While not the best they are pics.
I really do not have a lot of decor for them. They mainly like to sit in the cork wall, or in the little slabs of cork. In the one tank with a little bamboo looking tube (which is actually Japanese knot weed), the female Sphaero difficilis diolenius likes to spend most of her time in that.
Bigger ones are in what is almost 8 gallons, while smaller ones live in 5 gallon tanks. They really do not need a lot of space.
Eventually for the 3 tanks I setup yesterday i would like to get some bromeliads for the back walls or some tillies. Plants are mainly Ficus sp. panama , Selaginella apoda and muehlenbeckia.
