Default humidity levels for L. williamsi?

Hi all,

I have recently purchased one male L. williamsi, after reading all the care sheets I could find very carefully. Almost all of them say that humidity should be between 50-80%. That is a huge range!

I currently have him in a set up with hydroballs, substrate, moss, etc. There is a small pool in 2 places, and I have an active waterfall. The humidity level is much more like 80%.

Is this too much humidity? I don't know what the forests of Tanzania are like, but I was leaning toward fairly humid, but I don't want it to be too wet for him.

Thanks in advance,

N

I find 70-80% to be better.

Hrmmmm......... part of my message got cut. It should have been.

I find 70-80% to be better in the higher humidity areas, such as the lower parts of the tank.

The 50-80% range normally mentioned is just the normal ranges for daytime. Usually in the early morning prior to misting it is anywhere from 50-60% and once misted it goes higher to around 80 or more. Before the lights go out it can go back down again to 50-60%.

thank you! I have noticed that he tends to just hang out near the top, where humidity levels are lower, but I didn't know for sure if that was the humidity or his natural climbing tendencies. It's also the best heat and UVB basking spot...

Right now I have a 1/2 glass/1/2 mesh top on the tank, so I will watch closely and may go to an all mesh and reduce the humidity that way if things seem to be going awry.

Thank you again,

N

Hi,

This should be fine and I must have been sleeping when I wrote my response. 70-80% is usual bottom humidity, top will decrease naturally due to basking/UVB lamps and this is ok.

Some of mine like to hangout in the lower parts at different times of the day where the humidity is higher and this is usually before a shed.

Terribly sorry. I corrected my above text so it makes more sense as well.
