Vocalizing!

Now, some of you out there may have no idea why this is exciting to me, but I just heard my L. williamsi vocalizing for the first time yesterday--and then again, today!

I had actually decided the dwarf geckos were mute. They have never made a peep before, and I've had them since spring. Even when handled to move them, they never made a sound...nor when courting and breeding.

It's a very high-pitched quiet little chirp, by the way. Seemed to be one of the females who was doing it.

Im gonna say congrats because theres nothing cuter than a gecko vocalizing! (Unless its a Tokay... theirs are intimidating!)

I don't own that species, but that must be pretty neat!

i have never heard a noise from mine ... so i find that interesting

Are you sure it wasn't the lugubris? They do often chirp at each other.

i have a pair of phelsuma abbotti checkei right next to my bed and they make so much noise in the mornings it wakes me up!! Noisy little geckos!! It is cool to hear though!!

I can confirm that they are indeed able to make sounds. (I would describe it as a squeak)

However I noticed that they vocalize mainly when they are chased or fight with one another. I have had two females that where fighting quite a lot and I heard sounds from them every now and then when they where chasing each other and fighting. Since then I have also noticed the females scold the male when he is chasing them to mate.

Interesting... Perhaps I have not heard it yet because the room is so loud with fans and pumps.

That sounds likely - it is not a very loud sound.

Absolutely, the lugubris are upstairs in our bedroom, and the williamsi are downstairs in my office area. The lugubris make a sort of 'chk' sound which occasionally develops a raspy squeak to it.

The Lygos make a little high-pitched chirp that reminds you more of a hesitant cricket. (I don't use crickets at all, and none are in the house--the tank of Lygos is only 3 feet away from me, lol).

I have 2 females and a male in the tank. One of the females is very dominant, but I have a ton of visual barriers. I think she was squeaking at the male, judging by their positions.

the only animal I currently have that I hear noise from is my Male Pm grandis the noisy bugger croaks away at all time of the day
