Default Feeding of L. Williamsi

Hello there,

I recently got 1.1 L williamsi and everything goes fine.
However I would had 2 questions regarding the feeding:
- do you toss the feeder insects into the cage and let them roaming until they are eating or ...?(posbbily they can hide and can grow bigger in the cage....)
- is it possible to feed williamsi exclusively on CGD?

I would say it depends what live food your feeding.

Fruit flies wouldn't be a problem if there roaming around in the tank but crickets like you say could hide and grow bigger and pose a problem for the williamsi.

I feed baby dubia roaches and keep them in a small glass dish to prevent there escape. Helps to keep the calcium dust on them also. I use the magnaturals feeding ledge, has two spaces for feeding dishes and allows the gecko to easily see and catch them.

I believe you can feed exclusively on the cgd but mixture of cgd and live food will probably make a happier gecko.

Hope that helps.

With fruitflies you also need to be careful. Add too many and it could stress the animals with them crawling all over them, or they could over eat. That is the one bad thing about Lygos, they will over eat if you give them the chance.

With crickets they become fuller faster, so you do not want to add too many here or you will hear lots of singing in your tanks. Best is to offer them one by one the first few times and see how many your geckos will eat.

To add to getmealemon's suggestion - Ofenfisch (firebrats) also make great feeders for Lygos, williamsi especially love these! I add 8 per gecko in a little dish so they don't have the chance to escape as they are quite fast.

I would not recommend to feed CGD solely to anything but a Rhac. I know with Phelsuma & Lygos many have experienced slower growth rates and lifespans.

I offer mine the CGD once a week, they think it is a treat, but I know better.
