Lygodactylus williamsi Baby: Scary Hatchling Behavior
So, another one of my eggs hatched. I hoped to keep this baby alive, so I built a new viv for him, gave him a good UV light, baby food, etc. Then I came home during my lunch break to mist, so he would have some water. Well, when the water hit him, he jumped straight up in the air, ran around his viv, then flipped on his back and curled up like he was dying, all while acting like he was swallowing. I was afraid I had given him a heart attack or something. All I could think was I killed him. I have never had a gecko respond like this to water. He hasn't done anything like it since, even when a few drops hit him when I misted (just the wall and plants, not him). I am avoiding spraying him now.
However, when I came home, he was basking under the lamp, like nothing had happened. I got to spend the rest of the day terrified that I had killed my baby gecko, for him to act like nothing happened.
Has anyone had this kind of thing happen before? I have never heard of geckos playing dead (if that is what he did), so I am stumped.
Any ideas?
