Default Why is he always brown?!

I recently picked up a pair of yellow headed dwarf geckos. My female is quite pretty mostly brown with quite a bit of yellow for being a chika.
My male on the other hand always a super dark brown nearly black. Unless I take him out of his tank. With in ten or so minutes he's a beautiful shade of blue and yellow.
WHY?!?!

Could you post pictures of them?

What are the temperatures inside the viv?

How certain are you that you have a M/F pair?

The first is him when I take him out of the tank for a few minutes.
The second is the both of them. He's on the left. He is super dark. That's what he usually looks like :S
The colder part of the tank is about 75. The hot part 85. It stays pretty humid. 80 % ish. All my tanks have been all summer. I've had to put fans on a few.
They rummage around the tank not staying in the hot or the cold spots. They eat well. They're active all day. Hmmm that's all I can think of. I know geckos change colors, but I'd like his blues and yellows to show.

Are these wild caught?

My breeding pair male always is dark when in the viv, only fires up his nice coloring when the lights turn out or I am away from the tank or I take him out away from the female. The females are known to be big B**hes, so that may play a part.

His CB children fire up for the majority of the day even if I am standing in the front of the tank, but do get dark during some parts of the day if startled.

How well planted is your enclosure? What type of lighting do you have?

I have 2 of these guys, sold to me as a male/female pair, but pretty damn sure they are both males...I had to separate them almost immediately.

Anyway, the more aggressive one I had to put into a vid with some other animals, and much to my surprise, he seems to love it in there, is thriving, a little fat, and always has great color. The other one is in by himself in a nicely planted viv. He has good color only when he thinks I am not looking at him!

If I pretend that I am looking at the viv next to his, and look over without moving my head, he is a great color. When he notices that I am looking directly at him, he "grays up" and turns a darker charcoal-ish all over. Skittish? wild caught?

It depends on the animal might be the only thing to say about them. *shrug*
