Default Ptychozoon kuhli - Photos - Questions

Wanted to post these guys here. I got a male and a female recently. Currently they are housed separately.

Male

Female

I have not given them anything for internal parasites and find much conflicting information about that. The male has already eaten twice here, the female I just got yesterday so she is still getting used to things. I have been keeping them really wet with lots of misting.

Very nice animals!!

It's not always necessary to give them something against internal parasites, but it's important to get rid of mites and stuff like that.

Good luck with them (and lots of babies)

I think it's quite a stupid thing not to do anything against internal parasites. If you can, contact a vet specialized in exotic animals, everything will be fine. If animals are wc, do the fecal exam and proceed if there are parasites; because of the stress the animal could die of them.

the stress from the treatment can just as easily kill the animal. Keep them warm, dark, and fairly humid...they will acclimate well, and within a few months, most WC imports will work out their own problems with internal parasites.
Your biggest concern here is acclimating the animals, because after all, this animal did not suddenly aquire parasites in the shipping box, its most likely lived with them for its whole life, and they only become a problem when the animal is stressed.
From the pictures, your animals are in good shape, and should present no problems for you.

Hi Marisa ~

How are these guys doing? Were they wild caught? Did you check all the folds of their skin for extremely small bright reddish orange mites? If you find mites, carefully smother the mite with a dab of vegetable oil on a q-tip. Then brush the mite off with a dry q-tip. This is important, because you really don't want to start breeding mites!

Sometimes WC geckos aren't hydrated properly in transit. That can be very hard on their kidneys. I have a friend who bought 4 WC kuhli from an importer about a year ago. One by one three of them died. She saved the fourth by treating it with small doses of panacur.

Hi guys. Late update here.

Both the male and the female are doing great! When I first got them, I got rid of visible mites, and soaked them in shallow water for a good half hour. They are housed in their own enclosures. The male took longer then the female to acclimate...about two weeks before he started acting in a way I'd call "normal" while she was happy as a clam by like night two. Both eat crickets right away, both dusted and not dusted. They are doing really well. I remove any poop immediately and their cages are paper towel bottoms and kept VERY clean.

So far so good.

Hi Marisa ~

Good to hear that your P kuhli pair have settled in nicely. Are you planning to breed them?

"So far so good." Let's keep it that way .
