my female H.fasciata is showing signs of being gravid, she has two oval lumps in her belly when i saw her up against the glass last night, so ive added a styrofoam cup with some substrate in and a lid with hole to one corner of the viv. does this sound ok as a lay box?

the substrate is:

80% sand
20% cocofiber/moss

would i be best incubating any eggs in the viv?
ive never had any eggs before. so its a whole new challenge..

from what I have heard they do not use nest boxes and lay out in the open. they lay hard shelled eggs
you can definitely try one though.

Mine just buried them in the substrate (cocofibre), had to search quite well to find them too!

thanks for the replies, ill leave the cup in their for the time being, see if she chooses it or not.

quick update, she didnt choose the cup,

but, one of the eggs had a hole in and no internals, presume crickets got at it, and the other was dimpled and broke when i moved it, but it had a hardish yellow yoke inside, presume this was fertile and in my clumsyness i screwed it up ..

Do H.F lay in clutches? could i expect anymore?

you can expect some more, but it will take some time...they don't lay every two or three weeks like some other geckos...

hope you're lucky enough to find some more fertile eggs soon!

Next time use spoon to scoop some of the substrate out with the eggs in the substrate and carefully put it in a cup. You can put the spoon in the deli cup and sort of push on the substrate while pulling the spoon out from underneath it and lay it gently in the cup.

When I was breeding them I broke eggs a couple times trying to grab them so I started just scooping them out.
