Default Ptychozoon kuhli - New cage and breeding

I finally set up a new cage and introduced my pair of flyers last night. They had been in their own set ups since I got them. Both are doing great. I introduced them last night and by this morning they were locked together. I am really hoping for some kuhli babies!!!!!!!!!

Thumbs up 68 days at mid 70s

Hi Marisa ~

Although I can't provide temperature specifics, my egg was left in situ in a western exposure room in the Seattle sun (sometimes not much) from April 18-June 25, 2003 (68 days). So temps probably were mid 70s. That captive hatched flyer is almost 7 years old !! Sara is beautiful.

Don't know gestation specifics.

Thanks for the tips. So far I only witnessed the mating that night, which lasted for many hours.

However these guys are AMAZING to watch!!!! They are near my bed so at night I've been leaving a low night light on so I could watch them. They have LOTS of communication between the two.

The male will approach the female. When he gets close enough, he calls to her and while calling his tail moves back and forth..only moves as he calls almost to the "beat". She mostly pushes him away by wagging her tail back and forth like a cat and he simply walks away. He tries to approach her about two or three times per night that I see. I am sure it's more. She doesn't seem to have any problems telling him to back off without things getting "violent"

Both are eating well still so I am excited at the possibility of healthy CB babies coming my way soon.

Marisa ~

When you introduced your P. kuhli pair did you place them in their new tank at the very same time?

I've all the parts and a 24 gallon high tank. My project is to place my kuhli together very soon. Right now I have them in side by side tanks right next to my bed. I too love watching them on and off throughout the night even when they are just peacefully resting. Was going to put the new tank on the stairway landing, but better to place it where they are now. I know I would miss watching them.

Several months ago about midnight I heard my female kuhli calling to the male in a rather loud "voice". The male in the next tank came over right away and responded with a lower pitched call at about twice the frequency. When I placed them together in the female's tank (5 gallon), she would have nothing to do with him and became aggressive when he got close, but did not chase him. I know that tank is way too small, but it was a monitored experiment since they were calling out to each other. After a couple hours I placed the male back in his cage. Hopefully mating will happen in their new tank. The male actually displayed himself to the female while in his own cage. That's HOW ready he was/is!

Sara (captive hatched by me) turns 7 yo on the 25 June 2010. The WC male (mites removed long ago) is probably similar in age.

Hi

Yes I placed them together at the very same time. They do call...the male calls trying to attract her and she makes noise when she wants him away from her. lol

They have been together for ten days now. I am hoping to see eggs in a month? We'll see.
