Default My newest rescue

So this is Sally. She the best spokeswoman for proper enclosures and proper husbandry. Her last home used a 150 watt spotlamp for heating. Needless to say she suffered massive burns. To top it off poor humidity has cause further shed issues and is now missing multiple toes. Only since moving in with us has she been eating a proper diet. In the wild savannah monitors only eat mammals less than 1%, her entire food pyramid was rodents. Lots of changes in her life, but she's taking it like a champ. Everyday is better than the last and I couldn't be happier with her progress. My biggest hope is that she teaches one person to do that little extra research in their next or first pet.

Poor girl!! Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to provide this girl with the life she deserves! I look forward to updates on her progress and healing.
Again, thank you! She deserves the new loving home she has with you!

No thanking me, I wish I came across her sooner. There's no way I wouldnt have helped her. Some of the best pets are rescues. I'll keep updates flowing.

Poor girl, so glad she now as a loving home where she can live the rest of her life without worry. I've found that rescues make the best pets

Oh that poor critter! She really looks rough. Glad that she's in your care now. Is there any chance that those burned areas will eventually heal over/become scaled or will they remain scarred burned areas?

There is a chance with time some skin will develop some scales. I've seen it happen in both iguanas and ball pythons. She will never look "normal" if she recovers some scales they will probably be darker if not black and will be misshaped. As of now due to bare skin we are using a reduced top heat with more under heat/warmth than normal. We can't even use strong uv light. Which will be hard. We do have our challenges ahead of us but it will be worth it.

I also thank you for rescuing such a wonderful reptile. Savannah Monitors happens to be my favorite reptile. Sadly the majority fall in the hands of the inexperienced impulse purchaser and suffer greatly. Kept in fish tanks, high watt basking bulb, newspaper substrate, diet of mice succumbing to death at very young ages. I am sure you know you have your hands full from now on Good Luck and keep us posted!

I can't believe how many people consider savannah monitors the same as other monitors. Less than 1% of their diet is mammalian. Ugh it's so fusturatng. I will keep updates coming. Her energy level has rose since I've got her on a diet of snails, mussels, crawdads, and roaches. It's amazing what 2 weeks does. Still having trouble shedding around the neck and base of tail. Daily soaks are helping, and today was the first day of swimming in the tub. Which was awesome!! It's like having a gator in the tub. My tegu can climb out of the tub so it looks like a kiddy pool is coming soon. Lol.
