Ok figured I would document some of the things I have been learning. I started off with a 29 gal aquarium (freebie). It came with a fairly new UTH, light fixtures, and a stand. It's good to have buddies who work in recycling centers. Pic #1
After much scrubbing with bleach and water, I still had some calcium buildup on the top. I read through the forum and found out that vinegar and scrubbing should have taken care of it. For the most part it did and got it as clear as I can. Pic #2
Next adding the substrate. I chose to do a mixture of coco fiber and Vita-Sand. and that brings me to where I am now. More to come in the next few days going to work on regulating the temps. Pic #3 #4
Well here's a pic of my final build. I hope they like it. I haven't been able to find the Pictus locally, so I ordered a pair of females (hopefully) from Exotic Reptiles For Sale!. I will post pics of hopefully 2 beutiful geckos soon.
Well I got my geckos!!! They are a bit shy but seem to be healthy and eating well. Not sure how much to feed. I start off with 4 crickets, then add a few more if they catch them and eat right away. They tend to stick in a little cave for now but fourtently thats where the crickets run to as well. As soon as they get a little more used to me and the surroundings I hope to get some pics.
That paticular little cave is right above the UTH. That's where they seem to hang at night. During the day they tend to stick in the middle, I have a little hide with beaked moss in it that I spray everyday. That's where they spend the day they hardly go to the cool side which leads me to belive I could use it a little warmer. The ambient temp with the day bulb on is 77. It gets to about 72 at night.
