Default Shy Picta?

I've had my picta for around a year now, and he's full size at 4 inches...he was probably around 2 inches when I got him. Obviously he must eat since he's grown to full size, and has lived a year, but I've never actually seen him eat. He's extremely shy it seems, and never see him wander around his vivarium. I started him on cypress mulch, with some fake plants and a coconut shell for him to hide in (Where he spends 99% of his time). I've since switched him to eco earth (Like the look better) with some leaf litter mixed with it, and still have some fake plants, and wood, along with the coconut. Yet still, I've never seen him wander around. When I get him out he just kind of hunkers down and doesn't really move. He's always got that scared gecko appearance whenever I check on him, or hold him. He never seems to be curious about anything like my leos. Is there something I should try? Is this normal for them? Anything I seem to be doing wrong?

Regards,
Josh

Hello,

My pictas do the same about wandering. They just sit in the tank and rarely move daytime. I think you should try to catch him when he is hungry and there is dark for a few hours. Maybe then you can see him somewhere away from the shelter wandering or looking for food. Hope this help. If he poos don't worry they can be shy even males.

Well it makes me feel better that it's not just mine. It's a shame though, he's such a good looking gecko it'd be nice to see him from time to time on his own accord.

I have a very shy boy also. The girls come out every time i open the cage to see If i have food etc. and they are out alot just digging and trying to pick up rocks and stuff. the boy never comes out and if he's out and see s me he runs back to hiding.I have 5 girls and 1 boy. I took him out as I am up to 65 babies and 20 or so eggs. He seemed very depressed so I put 1 girl in with him. Still i never see him

So maybe it's a male thing?

Maybe I should buy a couple ladies off you. Where would I find a couple of nice females?
