Unhappy Dosage of pepto-bismul

Hi Frankie,
Thank you so much for posting this information about cryptosporidiosis in geckos. My leopard gecko, who is about 8 months old now, has been sick basically since the day we got her. She has all the signs you listed and is doing very poorly at the moment (not eating, not very active, regurgitating) and after taking her to a reptile vet, we are pretty certain she has crypto because she was sick a couple months after we got her and she got better briefly after treating her with antibiotics and NSAIDs (nonsteroidals) and syringe feeding her. Now, she's become ill again and has gotten worse than she's ever been and at this point, I'm willing to try anything at this point. I've been trying really hard to get her through this and she did bounce back from it for a bit, but now she seems to be failing. I'd like to try the pepto-bismul. What dosage did you use for the pepto-bismul? My gecko weighs only 9 grams right now. I know I may have to put her down if she gets really bad, but I'd least like to the pepto because I've never tried that and no one has ever suggested that to me before. Thank you so much for mentioning it .

Default What to feed her

Sorry, I forgot to ask one other question as well. What should I be feeding her when I syringe feed her since she won't eat on her own? I've just been mushing up some crickets and mealworms and mixing it with water and some calcium and syringe feeding her that. What did you feed your geckos Frankie when they were sick? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Im treating a gecko that I think has crypto, and I was wondering If i should keep feeding him mealies or try swapping over to crix. Also, if he likes the pepto bismol, can I use that to bribe him, or could he get addicted and become a gecko drugy.

I was recently looking up what could have possibly made my baby speedy die. Well come to find out the true culprit was crypto. She had all the tall tail signs of a little sick gecko from crypto and I should have did more research to save her. As I was reading I found out that bleach doesn't work to kill crypto and its eggs only amonia and I might have unknowingly exposed Fat Boy to this disease. I aslo read humanitn (I think that's how its spelt) works but since Fat Boy was barly exposed is there any chance of recovery without meds?

If you're concerned that your animal has crypto, you need to have them tested. There's no sense in treating an animal with no diagnoses. All that will accomplish is stressing them out and causing more problems.

Absolutely correct, thanks for pointing that out. Many people do not realize that it's illegal to be giving dosages for medication over the net (and illegal to be giving medication without being under direction of a licenced veterinarian), and those of us that are certified could lose our licence in doing so. If you're concerned that your pet is sick, bring it to a reptile vet!
