Default Lepoard Gecko Up for Adoption (No Charge)

Hey everyone, I just made an account here today to see if anyone would be interested in adopting an abandoned lepoard gecko. I go to college and he belonged to a kid who lived in the dorm room next to me. He just dropped out of college a few days ago and left this poor little guy all alone in his room with the aquarium and everything. He looks like he is malnourished but I don't know what normal is. His name is fuego and I have no clue of his age. I couldn't just neglect the little guy so I took him and bought him a container of mealworms, what the lady at petco said they eat. I would be willing to pay the shipping to wherever assuming the aquarium and everything doesn't cost too much to ship. I'll send fuego, the aquarium, the fake tree, his little den thingy, a heat rock, and the light. Private message me if anyone is interested. Thanks

Also, he seems very friendly, likes being held, gives kisses, and doesn't bite

It's a leucistic leopard gecko. Also, if he is having a tough time or may be malnourished you don't want to feed him meal worms; their exoskeletons are harder for them to digest are serve no real nutritional purpose. You should be feeding him gut loaded crickets; meaning the crickets have been eating on a nutritional cricket food for 24 hours prior to feeding. The crickets should be no wider than the space between the geckos eyes. Also the crickets should be dusted with vitamin powder before each feeding. Maybe you should take care of the little guy you may be surprised how much he grows on you once you get him healthy and energetic.

Thumbs up

Hi fuegogecko ~

Sent you a PM about his diet.

A hot rock is really not a good idea. Fuego could get burned. Use the overhead light on him---a red bulb or a ceramic heat emitter. White lights are too bright for these nocturnal geckos..."hurt" their eyes. Another way to heat the tank is with an under-the-tank heater. A good temperature range is 70 F on the cool side and near 90 F on the warm side. He should have a moist hide on the cool side which can simply be a plastic butter tub with a hole cut out on the side and filled with moss and a dry hide on the warm side.

What size is his tank? He should be on paper towels for a substrate for now.

Nice that you have a soft heart for animals!

The tank has sand in it, is that ok or does he need paper towels?

Fuegogecko ~

Paper towels are best. There is some chance that leopard geckos can catch their claws in the reptile carpet. Paper towels are easy to change out.

Received your PM. Something is acting up and I sometimes cannot reliably respond to posts or to PMs. Happens consistently, yet sporadically, and RIGHT NOW!

Pink label Rep-Cal with D3 is a powder which you can use to lightly dust the crickets. Place powder in a tall container, add crickets, then swirl to lightly coat them. This is another of those things. Without the proper calcium intake geckos can suffer from metabolic bone disease. (Bad news.)

Did you know the guy who left Fuego behind when he left college?

No, I don't know really anything about them, they aren't really my type of pets but I just felt so sorry for the lil guy. Like I said, I'll pay for shipping and everything if you can give him a great home
