Default Pachydactylus (Chondrodactylus) Angulifer D3 / Calcium Supplementation?

Hi,

I have a couple of pairs of Chondrodactylus angulifer angulifer at home and have been dusting crickets with a vitamin D3 / calcium supplement. In some husbandry articles I recently read for the species, the authors commented on having placed dishes of calcium supplement in the tanks for the females to take advantage of. If I use a D3 impregnated calcium supplement for these "licking stations", would the D3 content be excessive in combination with their dusted meals?

Regards,

Dave

Hi and happy new year,

I wouldn't use something containing D3 or any other vitamin for a "self-service" dish, as you can't control amount of vitamin eaten. This might do more harm than good.

I use cuttlebones and mussle grit and it will be accepted by C. a. angulifer.

Regards,
Chris

Hi,

I recommend offering them a dish with calcium powder. I use pulverized cuttlefish bones. The C.angulifer (even the males) pick up the powder regularly and in relative large amounts. The females need much calcium for the eggs and suffer very fast if too less calcium is offered.
So if you always have a dish with calcium in your cage, it should be safe.
Anyhow I do not recommend using D3 in that powder because of what Chris3004 said.
The geckos get enough of D3 from the dusted insects.

best regards and hapy new year

Sebastian

No one ever asked "hey kobewhatever" tell us how you keep your 2134982 animals in a 10 gallon tank. And again. . it would be C. a. angulifer or Chondro angulifer not Chondro A.. . . .

Dave I do a mix of 1 part multi vitamin to 3 parts calcium. I use herptivite and the repcal in the pink label with D3. I dust every feeding and I cant see why it would hurt if you left a dish of calcium with or without D3. I personally havnt had any problems with D3 but I can see what Sebastian and Chris are saying. My C. angulifer do take powder from a dish and I just use the same calcium with D3 in it.

Good luck with them.
