Default Need help with sexing P.rangei's

Hi, I was looking at my Pachydactylus rangei's today to try to find out how many males and females I got. They are all born 2010, I bought them as 3 unsexed juveniles in August 2010. I hope that someone who knows more about sexing this species could help me out to tell what sexes they are. Thanks for any help!

Hello,

how old are these geckos?
Number one is sure a male. Number two and three can be femals, though I'm not sure.

In this case the males are much smaller than the females.

Can you made better photos of gecko number two and three?

Cheers, Jenny

I see 2.1 here, maybe the 2nd male is not full grown or had not been cooled down (there is small row of spurs on the 3 & 4th pics)

Thanks for your replys, I really appreciated it.

Number 2 is a little bit smaller than the others, so I think I need to wait a little bit to be able to tell for sure what sex that one is. Number 2 got some small spurs on the sides, so that one might turn out to be a male. But I'm pretty sure that I atleast got a pair.
Number 3 should be a female because she is much bigger than the male (Number 1).

Default sexes

Hi Niclas,

as I have sexed a few hundreds over the last couple of years, I can tell you no. 1 is definetely a male. No. 2 and 3 are big enough to be sexed accurately, but unfortunately the pics are detaild enough. From what I can see, no. 2 looks male and no. 3 looks female.

Try to get better and bigger pictures from the tail from above. Use a background that provides a high contrast to the geckos and make sure that you have a lot of light and avoid shadows through the flash.

The problem with the second gecko is, that there are some females that shows a very prominent line of small tubercles, that at first sight are looking quite similar to the tubercles of juvenile males. When taking a closer look there are clearly visible differences in number and structure of tubercles between males and females.

Best regards,

Steven
