Thank you so much for getting this reset up with the new format. Very very much appreciated because this is pretty much my go-to spot for first information! Thank you!

A Christmas Story: Starring Donovan Gecko (or "It's a Major Award!")

Donnie and I did a small photoshoot over the weekend with a very familiar prop... (Please note that at no time is Donnie forced to interact in any way with a prop. All of his reactions are entirely his own.)

Morning or evening? Before or after or different day?

He's gotten way better with me holding him. Because of his "noodle dance" as a friend calls it, many times, I'll hold him but keep in him his enclosure (the convenience of a front opening enclosure). Some days, he just relaxes and rests in my hand. Other days, he backs up. That's his big...

Exo Terra Stone Desert as substrate for Leopard Gecko?

I'm looking to switch from a moderately simple slate and paper towel floor for my leopard gecko to a more naturalistic enclosure (as well as moving up to a 40 gallon enclosure from a 25 g. long). I know a lot of people do organic soil mixed with play sand. But I worry that I would screw up the...

    Hikari LeopaGel Food

Just out of curiosity, has anyone used this for the Leos? https://smile.amazon.com/Hikari-20606-LeopaGel-2-11-oz/dp/B0822Q1JDX/ref=sr_1_39?crid=L8MT9G50MX81&keywords=leopard+gecko&qid=1657736357&sprefix=leopard+gecko%2Caps%2C85&sr=8-39 Donovan is currently eating like a happy little trouper...

    Dig Box substrate?

Question: For geckos that don't have a naturalistic enclosure, do you all have dig boxes? IF so, what do you put in them?

    DHP Instant Success

I've been looking at stable slate like that just for providing different levels for Donnie. THe stickable tiles were going to just be under the entire enclosure to stop airflow (i.e., heat) from escaping through the wire shelf. But my UTH decided to die (not sure why it died so quickly - kinda...

    Fixture for DHP question.

I am going to be switching Donnie from a halogen bulb for basking (which hasn't been effective and he doesn't seem to like at all) to a deep heat projector. I just got the 50W Arcadia DHP (I'd rather start lower and get a bigger one if needed than to over heat him). I have a thermostat for it...

Second shed in about 2 weeks

I'm not sure about a line around his tail. Also based on that picture, it looks like he had a tiny piece of shed skin stuck to the tip of his toe. I didn't see it when he was out last night, but I will double check him today. He actually let me pick him up briefly last night.

Second shed in about 2 weeks

Last night, after I cleaned his enclosure and changed from ceramic tiles to slate, I persuaded him to wander a bit and I was able to get some better pictures of him.

Second shed in about 2 weeks

Donnie had another successful shed. He's busy eating.

Second shed in about 2 weeks

Donovan is shedding again. He shed within the first week that I got him (brought him home on a Friday and he was shedding on Monday or Tuesday). Tomorrow will be a full 3 weeks that I've had him. There was some discussion that he was small for his age (I was told he was around 18 months to 3...

    Wellness Checkup

So, I got Donovan about 2.5 weeks ago. He's eating like a trooper, but we are still working on getting to know one another (in other words, he's not afraid of my hand, sniffs and licks it when I put it in his enclosure, and has crawled over it, but isn't quite ready for me to hold him yet)...

Slippery ceramic tile -- switch to a different variety?

Oh, and my darling husband just sent me a picture of Donnie's actual litter box (without his presents that he left me since I cleaned it up already). It's tiny: about 1.5 to 2 inches square. The paper towel is what I had put down in his bathroom corner to make clean up slightly easier, but...

Slippery ceramic tile -- switch to a different variety?

Yes, I'll definitely have to have my husband do the video. Although, chances are, I can do it. I just have to be more focused on what I'm doing and not be as ****y. The fact that he spent the night being so curious and brave made me a bit overly confident. He politely reminded me that, while...

Slippery ceramic tile -- switch to a different variety?

Now that Donovan is finally starting to explore his enclosure, I noticed that when he walks, his feet slip a bit on the ceramic tiles. So I was going to go to Lowes and get ceramic tiles with a rough type of texture. But, before I do that, I wanted to ask. In another group I am in...

Leopard Gecko feeding dish and eating challenges

Updated Housing and Feeding Dish, and a new (non-shedding) picture of Donovan So, I joined the Reptile Lighting group on Facebook and have added lighting according to the recommendations of Dr. Baines. And I added a new food dish set up so Donovan can eat at his leisure. And I got to take...

Leopard Gecko feeding dish and eating challenges

This is the current set up. The humid cave and log style hide are on the warm end of the enclosure. the skull and fake stone hide are on the cooler end. The far corner (opposite the skull) is his litter area. I have a leopard gecko litter box coming in the mail (if he uses it great, if...

Leopard Gecko feeding dish and eating challenges

So, you mentioned a rock or something. What about something like this that he can climb on to get to the bowl easier? Or am I still overthinking?

    artificial plant suggestions?

So, I did a search and while I found a lot of conversations about artificial plants, I didn't find any real suggestions. I was using these terrarium vine type things that are supposed to go around this fake branchy thing that is then held up with suction cups. That didn't work, so I just had...
