    Vocalizing!

Now, some of you out there may have no idea why this is exciting to me, but I just heard my L. williamsi vocalizing for the first time yesterday--and then again, today! I had actually decided the dwarf geckos were mute. They have never made a peep before, and I've had them since spring. Even...

    Hatchling Mourning Gecko

Such cute little things. :) The parents are a riot, chasing each other around to mate and making soft 'chik' sounds. (Yes, they are all female--they still mate. Sort of--there is neck grabbing involved, at least, lol).

    First Lygodactylus kimhowelli

Now I have about 5 williamsi hatchlings, 2 mourning gecko hatchlings, and...finally...1 L. kimhowelli hatchling! Believe it or not, I'm rearing them all in a 12 X 12 Exo-Terra that I modified to seal off any potential exit holes. Once they're large enough, they'll be transferred into bigger...

They're going to give me grey hairs

So, I had several more williamsi hatch, and in the process of transferring them to a new enclosure....lost one, again! Just gone, no where to be found. Fortunately, this morning, I spotted it up near the ceiling, and was able to recapture it. >.<

    Teeny gecko hatchling setups?

Just wondered what folks were using for their TINIEST baby geckos--the ones so small a D. hydei is too big for them to eat. I had an issue with one of my Lygodactylus hatchlings disappearing, and I've blocked off every hole I could find on a zoomed tank. Is there a better solution? The...

    Mourning gecko behavior

Now that my mourning geckos are acclimated to their new home, and used to us, I'm seeing some different behavior from them which has me wondering if perhaps these geckos are actually not nocturnal. I see my geckos out at various times during the day AND night. I am beginning to suspect they...

    Lygodactylus conradti hatchling

That is a 1/2 oz cup. How's that for tiny?

Tis the season--First L. williamsi hatchling!

Perfect pair of baby williamsi, the first ones I've hatched. I'm setting them up in mason jars with Pothos, and a little soil in the bottom with springtails. I'll be putting a UVB light overtop of the mason jars, and replacing the metal top with fiberglass screen.

Stop the Python and Boa Ban! Deadline May 11

The Deadline for Public Comment on the US Fish & Wildlife Service proposed Rule Change is midnight on May, 11 2010. If enacted this rule could have devastating impact on the Reptile Nation. Damage will not be limited to breeders of the 4 pythons, 4 anacondas and Boa Contrictor. It would have far...

    Help--hornet from moss?

I purchased some live moss from the reptile show this past weekend, from a dart frog breeder. It looks great in my viv, but today an uninvited guest just emerged. I'm guessing it's from the moss, and not the bamboo, because the bamboo has been in there for 2 months now. It's a small...

    L. conradti eggs!

I'm going to count these as CB, since I haven't witnessed them mating, they've only been here for 2 weeks, and I am not sure when the eggs were laid. One candles clear, the other looks orangish, but I don't have a proper candling light. :)

    New Lygodactylus conradti

Bold as brass, engaging, and nice-looking, that's my assessment so far. ^_^ Here's the male. He's a little dark here, but it was the best photo I could get before they went to bed. Also from Switzer. I got a letter saying SYR had their best shipping day ever. The weather was finally warm...

    Really tame williamsi

I was posting few short vids of my L. williamsi on youtube, when I came across this: YouTube - Merlin mue I'd noticed lately that my Lygos no longer dive for cover when I remove the lid to feed. Just today, a female didn't even bother to leave the feeding platform when I removed one of the...

    Bug puree'?

So, I had this crazy idea...folks feel that CGD isn't quite a complete enough diet for Phelsuma and other species that eat less fruit than Rhacs. Has anyone tried blenderizing a bunch of dusted feeder insects, and then using that as an addition to CGD or another MRP? You could freeze the...

    Just A "Want List".

Animals I hope to own and breed sometime in the next 5 years. Diplodactylus galeatus Furcifer lateralis Goniurosaurus hainanensis (highland) Hemidactylus fasciata (viper gecko) Lygodactylus capensis Lygodactylus conraui Lygodactylus luteopicturatus Lygodactylus mombasicus Lygodactylus...

    CGD and MRPs--information?

I'm curious to know whether folks have attempted to raise Phelsuma on CGD at any point--if so, what were the results? It clearly isn't being commonly done at this point...is this because no one has done an extended feeding trial, or was it found that the geckos do not do well on it? If they...
