4' x 8' sheets of pink or blue foam insulation work great. Coat with 3 or 4 layers of tile grout, a coat of shields all, then paint with acrylic. I then use a non toxic clear coat over the paint.
I wouldn't put it above a heat pad, it can cause it to overheat.

Heat tape runs underneath both levels. They seem to like it.
This is what I'm working on for mine. I'm not fond of the sliding glass doors. Always have too many cricket escapes. I'm doing the doors on this one piece with hinges.
I do not have any experience with heat cable. Was wondering if you could put under the substrate to take the place of a heat pad? I built a large enclosure with dividers for 20 geckos. It is going to cost too much for heat pads for each section. Was wondering if it would work to snake that cable...
Have a male Leopard I have been trying to breed but he won't go along. I put any female with him and he flips out. Not normal biting that comes with the mating. He ripped a chunk out of one females back. Any ideas on this?
