Well, this is the first time I've actually had both eggs of a clutch hatch the same night. There were two very beautiful babies looking at me this morning.
I was surprised to see this oddity at the end of one of their tails:
So, I'm witnessing on of my female C. elok laying eggs right now, and I noticed that she's doing it preshed. Wondered if anyone else caught them laying.
I'm beginning to think my Cameron Highlands female does not retain sperm. She laid just after she came in, and never became gravid again. I mated her in August and she laid last month, she is not gravid again. This could mean that sperm retention is based on locality populations...
Since I brought the Cameron Highlands pair back from Malaysia in April, she laid only one clutch (the one she was gravid with when she came in), and she never got gravid again (or she re-absorbed because I thought she was for a few weeks). Her first clutch hatched mid-August with only one of...
Just figured I'd post some pics of the frogs that Marcus imported from Malaysia this week. I think I'm leaving out a few Rhacophorus as well as Rana signata, but this is most of them..
Megaphrys nasuta
Leptobrachium nigrops
Microhyla sp.
Microhyla heymonsi
Nyctixalus pictus...
My third clutch of eggs have started hatching. This was a quick clutch. They were laid 6/23 and first has hatched 8/18 = 88 days with temps fluctuating from 74 to 82 (ac went out this past week). I'm guessing I'll see the second tomorrow. Looks good and healthy.
Previous clutch from her...
The older female elok that Marcus and I brought back from Malaysia laid her eggs in transit on 4-9-06. The first one just hatched today 9-8-06. Temperatures have been wide ranging from 64 to 78. The last few months they've been in the mid 70s range, only the first month in the 60s. This week...
Well, I decided that I hadn't taken weights in a couple weeks on my gravid females. Both females had been steadily gaining weight since they laid on 4/12 for the WC female I got from Marcus and 4/17 for the WC female brought back from Cameron Highlands.
Post egg laying weight of the first...
So, as I speak I have my first cat gecko hatching out. Laid 1/17/06, hatching just over four months 5/30/06. I kept temps between 60-72 for well over three months, and recently increased temps into the mid to upper 70s.
We'll see if I can get a decent picture up.
:D
Well, decided to do weights on my females today and I'm now able to confirm that the female I got from Marcus is gravid with clutch #6. A whopping 19.3 grams (total weight gain of 4 g since egglaying) and no male introduction since well before I received them in November. The eggs were...
Given that we weren't in a heavy neptenthes area in Malaysia, I figured I'd go ahead and post some pictures of plants that I took at a fellow froggers greenhouse.
Enjoy
Slipped a couple orchids in there..

Well, last night I noticed my female was going into a shed and looking like she wanted to nest, sure enough I have eggs today. I could practically set my clock to this girl.
... As Marcus would say..
This was one of Marcus' great finds (ok.. not to him, but definitely to Yn).
Sorry about the picture in the bag.. but he was a little too scary to take out again:
Hey guys!
We're back, and we collected three A. felinus out in the wild 1.1.1(probable female juv). I've got a couple of pictures that I took of them that I figured I'd share with you all.
Here's the first A. felinus that was found during our trip, gravid female:
Here's a cool shot of...
Well, given that my female had four clutches this past year, I decided not to immediately introduce the male after she laid her last clutch with me (giving her hopefully a 6mo-1yr break).
Due to her weight gain.. and possible egg spots, I've been thinking that she is gravid anyway since a few...
