I was just curious of the lifespan of under tank heaters. I have a Reptitherm UTH that is 2 years old now. It's working fine and I have it on a thermostat but was wondering if/when I can expect to replace it (and how to remove it when that happens)
Thanks!
I have a 2 year old (female I think) leo who for just about the past month has stopped eating. All other behaviors are normal (activity level, shedding properly, ect) and my husbandry is spot on. 90-93 degree warm hide with heat mat on thermostat, 80 degree warm zone regulated with overhead...
I see on this forum as well as other things I've read that this issue of leopard geckos "not eating" for extended periods of time seems to be quite common. Having just experienced this phenomenon for the first time this past week, I'm beginning to feel that this has something more to do with the...
Since December when I purchased my leo, I was running the UTH on a dimmer, which was fine for winter temps in my home ect. Fluctuations did occur but they were minimal and the range never exceeded 94 degrees. That was until this past month when the outside temps rise, ambient temp of my home...
I was kind of afraid of this but as we had some unseasonably warm weather in the northeast over the weekend, the room where I have my enclosure was of course warmer.
Over the winter months the warm side air temps remained at 80 degrees and the cool side air was almost always at 75 degrees or...
I had my juvenile leo for 2 months now. When I got him he was ~4 months old so he's ~ 6 months old is my guess. He has been eating on a regular basis daily, feeding on both crickets and mealworms. I feed ~10-15 food items and usually leave him wanting a bit more as to not overfeed. His growth...
I was just curious about this product. I have a natural looking desert environment created and was just looking to add some visual height to the enclosure. I know the leos don't necessarily need it but I do have a rock cave in a corner that he occasionally climbs to the top of so was thinking of...
yesterday evening my leo began his 3rd shed in a little over a month. He's growing at a rapid pace! Anyhow, he was snow white and starting his "shedding roll" by rubbing on rocks ect and going in and out of humid hide. I had to go out and was gone for about an hour and a half, came home to check...
I know most recommend feeding in the late evening which I usually do but occasionally I have to feed my leo at 3 or 3:30 in the morning on weekends as I am a bartender. He is still very active at this time so my question is this ok to do? In other words juggle his feeding schedule like this?
Next month I will be going away for a long weekend and wanted some advice on feeding my juvenile leo. Basically it would be a Friday to sunday thing so more or less one day without food, the Saturday. What's the best way to handle this? Leave a dish of mealworms? Feed Friday before I leave and...
The more I read the more confused I get. So many conflicting schools of thought ect. I just need a quick response from someone who can give me their opinion. I guess what I'm most worried about is OVER supplementing so I think I've decided to go with calcium every feeding, calcium + multivitamin...
My young leo who I've had for almost 3 weeks is doing great. Good thing is he's eating like a champion and is ALWAYS ready to eat! I feed crickets primarily and mealworms. I feed him in the early evenings when he is most active but he is also hungry very late at night/early am. I'm a bartender...
Well, all has been going great now for 2 weeks with my new baby/young leo. Habitat temps have been great and stable, eating ravenously and he/she is putting on weight, first shed went brilliantly, poop is normal, all couldn't be better. Now, I have yet to approach handling the animal. I've put...
For the most part I know to dust feeders 2X weekly with calcium + D3 as well as calcium + vitamin. My question is regarding pure calcium. leo is young (~4 months I guess) so I've read that pure calcium should be dusted with every feeding. Is this the case for a young leo?
Well, so excited, just got a new young juvenile leopard gecko yesterday and am thrilled. Got from a reputable local pet shop (not a big box chain) who got him/her from a breeder. I was expecting "Pinto" to be skittish and reclusive during his first few days but he's just the opposite and is...
ok, just finished what looks to be my final viv set up and am doing a trial run with my temps before getting the leo. After one full day with UTH on a dimmer/rheostat, and alternating day/night overhead bulbs my temps read as follows: warm surface/substrate temp 96F, warm side air ~4 inches up...
Well, I'm almost there and doing my research on where to purchase a leopard gecko. I'm leaning toward a high yellow. Now, with that said once you uncrate the animal how to you acclimate it to it's new home? Just put him/her in there I assume? How long to you wait to feed ect?
have an exo terra medium low that came with the Styrofoam rock backround. having read the negative reviews about it..primarily crickets getting behind it ect, and also found that it cut into the floor space of the enclosure, I need another backround solution. I purchased self adhesive faux slate...
Just a bit confused on supplementation. I've read pure calcium in cage..got that covered. Then for insect dusting calcium plus d3, but do you also need a separate reptile vitamin for dusting as well Or does the cacium with d3 cover that?
