What species occurs in las vegas? Is it C. v. variegatus or C.v. utahensis? an intergrade? I found a distribution map that says both occur in the area, but I can't tell the difference between them! do you know?

Hey thanks for question Alex and its a good one. I found no evidences of the C. v. variegatus and the C. v. utahensis co exsistents in the Las Vegas valley.I ve seen info that claims they accure together around the Red Rock area(west of Las Vegas). From expierences in the field and studies, I have found no evidence to support this information. I dont doubt that they co exsist in some area elsewhere in Clark County,NV,just not here in the Las Vegas valley. The way to tell the two subspecies a part: the C. v. variegatus have bands equal to or narrower than the interspaces. The C. v. utahensis have bands wider than the interspaces. I hope this helps you with your questions. Derek C.
