Well finally I'm taking the plunge into Uros and am getting a pair of Phants. Still a bit nervous about the cage, hope the pics work. I'm thinking I need some more foilage, with smaller leaves up top? Thanks for your input and tips!

i've worked a long time with figuring out what uros want so they feel at home.
your not mixing these two species are you?

you'll need smoother barked 1/8 - 1/4" branching and some ficus trees, ground
weed type plants and some leafs. no hardscape at all though!

if you have questions, just contact me, this is my day job.

no and yes. no, as it's not a stand alone plant, more would be needed IMO for higher humidty and shading, territories for males etc. but yes if you have maybe five trees on one tank. it depends on the light, soil type and depth, and tank size i guess. in that photo, which loaded before i could add a comment, has one larger ficus, three ficus rooted cuttings, a fern species and two weed type plants that are still in leaf cutting stage.

i'm talking an exo terra 12x12x18, with an 14-15 inch ficus and maybe a pothos or 2, is that reasonable with a 1.2 trio of U. phants and the same set up for a 1.1 pair of U. ebenaui?

argh! pothos!!!!...try cissus or creeping begonia or a vining peperomia, podiums are nice too.

no, ebens need something else. phants like small branches, moving humidy air
with long mistings from what i've noticed. ebens, since i have only been reading and talking about them like the same climate but like loose bark on larger branches to hind in. there is a guy in your state that has most of these items i think. also, i'd get a glass top for that exo-tank and maybe add a air pump in the back to help air flow. if you take out the junk styrofoam and use bark you'd be better off. but no, they can't be housed together, and their needs are different. ebens hide in bark, phants hang off branches. mixing the two will result in death of one of the two...IMO

i would cut the bark edges flat with a table saw for the tank so it's tight against
the edges, use foam to back fill..or dirt and plant it. you can create gaps for the ebens to hide in but i'm more into large oak, old cracked maples, apples and such. the whole branch for example that has the bark coming off it in a natural manner. but really it's up to your budget and what you feel looks good. i've seen photos of ebens walking up trees in the day time and sneak into the gap in the tree trunk and hide, that's what i'd do, cork...it's just not for me, as mike garret though, he's breeding these right now.
