They are around in small numbers. I know a few people who keep them, and yeah, they do eat a bit of fruit. Most people keep em like you would keep a phelsuma, without the intense lights. Im pretty sure they breed well, there just arent many in the states, and they most offspring are traded or sold before they hatch.
