After the Warrumbungles, I made a mad dash of another 450km further northwest to the outback region near Bourke. I wanted to have a quick look at Gundabooka National Park. Night arrived before I could reach Gundabooka, so I went night driving along the road between Brewarrina and Bourke. The habitat here was of course dry and the soil was fine and silty. Occasionally, this area is inundated when heavy rains fall here or in nearby Queensland.

Here is a photo showing the open eucalyptus woodland. Many of the low-growing shrubs are chenopods.

I found this Tessallated Gecko (Diplodactylus tessallatus) just south of Brewarrina.

I saw a few Bynoe's Geckos (Heteronotia binoei) as well. Most had the same pattern as the photo that I included from the Warrumbungles. One, however, was different.

I found two snakes but little else so I finally drove down a little mining road and set up the tent for the night. Parrots were numerous and noisy here the following morning. They included Bluebonnets, Mallee Ringnecks, Cockatiels and the big, beautiful Red-tailed Black Cockatoos.

I looked for diurnal lizards in Gundabooka the following morning. Here is a picture from the park.
