Shed Problems

Precision Herp

New member
Hi guy, I was given a coleonyx mitratus that had a very bad shed. Luckily the owner gave her to me as soon as the problem was noticed. I removed almost all the skin with a q-tip and some warm water. The only spot thats still a problem is the tip of her nose. This part is not comming off as easily. My question is can this be left alone? If not does anyone know a better way of getting off unshed skin?

Hi,

I am not experienced with Mexican Bandeds but the problem will be the same like that with other species, I think.
If I've got skin-shedding problems with any of my herps I put them in a box filled with moisty tissue-paper over night.
In most cases the animal gets rid of the old skin without help, if not tweezers or q-tips would do it.

Btw, I offer a wet box with moisty Sand, cocos-substrate or spaghnum-moss to my geckos all the time.
They usually get in by themselves if they prefer higher humidity or if the females want to lay eggs, so problems with skin shedding do not take place so often.

Good luck,

Peter
