Incubation medium for N. L. Levis??

Just wondering what everyone uses.
Is a container 3/4 full of moist vermiculite okay? I know some use perlite, or a mix of both, but I'd rather stick to just vermiculite if others have had success with it.

Oh and at around what temp is it good to incubate at? I've heard about 80.

any input would be great!

Sam, why not head to your local garden centre and get some Profile Aquatic Pond Soil or Turface ( Profile Products LLC http://www.turface.com/lawn/lawn_3.html )
I've been using it for years and find it's better than vermiculite, perlite, peat or coco-fibre, for soft or hard shelled eggs. Check the GGA archives for a discussion about it or Seramis, the European version. Jon Boone mentioned it there years ago, I tried it and got hooked the first year.

I have heard good things about that also Hilde...justnever got to trying it...

Just tried perlite this year, and its been going good.

"If it aint broke, don't fix it" is a good saying thought with incubating. I would say a 1:1 mixture of water/vermiculite and incubate from 80-82 Sam...just got some levis levis myself though...just to have some fun with ;-)

Thanks for the tips guys/gals :)
Hilde: Ya I've seen pics of your incubation medium, always wondered what that was. Glad it's working out so well as I've never really heard of it or know many people using it. I'll check it out and see, thanks

Ari/Ken. I'm gonna try the vermiculite method for now as I'm very used to it and got a huge bag of it anyways and see what happens. Good to hear that it works with levis eggs as well.

Hi ReptileKing,

I've always used perlite for all of my animals and have had good success with it over the years. 1:1 ratio by weight is what has worked well for me. Good luck and congrats on the eggs.

Thanks Derek.
I've heard of many using perlite 1:1 ratio. I tried it out many years ago, and it wasn't a success. Vermiculite has worked great thus far. So if others are using it with levis eggs, i guess i'll test it out too. mind as well for now. :)

If it doesn't work, i'll try with perlite.
