The two juvies pictures hatched about 6 months ago. I got my original pair about 3 years ago, and have been tryin different aproaches at breeding(cooling, seperating, etc) The male that was being kept with this female died after i tried simulating a "dry-hot" season, but the female came out in "ok" shape. she laid eggs about 5 weeks later. I kept them on a sand/dirt mixture so that burrows would hold even when the sand became completely dry and almost parched. I kept them like this for 50 days. The only water that was given was a light mist once a week and a very small water dish(Snapple lid) I didnt feed them during this time. I dont think they ever surfaced, but could have late in the night. The temps were in the mid 90's in the day, heated from above so the bottom layers of dirt would be abit cooler. When i brought them out, the male had obviously lost alot of weight. The female had also, but not as much. I dropped the temps to the mid 80's and simulated a rainy season by heavy spraying every afternoon. I started heavily feeding, and aabout 2 weeks after the new "season" the male died.(?) I incubated the eggs at 83 for 67 days on slightly damp dirt. i wanted to use dirt to simulate nature as close as possible and it was a pain becuase i had to check em every day to keep the moisture right. I dont know if the male died due to the dry season being to hot or to dry or what, but I will be trying a slightly less dramatic approach with a new male and see what happens.
