D. Vittatus questions

Hi Guys,
I've had my pair of Vittatus together for a couple of months now. I've noticed that in the last couple weeks my female was starting to look gravid. Well tonight while I was doing me routine check I found the substrate in the lay box was all kicked up to one side. I figured, right on, looks like I might have some eggies. When I searched I only found one, and it was infertile. It was like a really deflated water balloon. Now keep in mind that she is a first time breeder. I was just wondering if it was normal for first time Vittatus breeders to lay infertile clutches as a first clutch? And to have only laid one egg. When should I expect her to lay another clutch? And do most of you keep the male in with the female at all times. I know with my leos as soon as I see the female is gravid I remove the male. The male doesn't seem to be bothering the female at all. And as far as incubation goes, I was planning on using perlite as a medium, with a 1.1 water ratio. And incubating the eggs at 83F. Sorry for all the questions lol. I've been breeding leos for 8 years now and this is my first time with an aussie species. Any info would be really appreciated.
Kind regards,

Hey Jason!

Its pretty much normal for all geckos to have duds the first time around...and as for being deflated, it probably dried out...correct me if I am wrong. And for the one egg thing, sometimes that happens...even had it happen once this year with amyae...trust me, its weird...I was like, shit...did I miss something in the lay box?! Haha! 83F is fine, I would say with most Aussie species...77F-86F are good, I don't know if D. vittatus are TSD in anyway...but you never know! The incubation medium would also do fine! Good luck, and hopefully in 3-4 weeks you would have to pearly whites!

Have a good look to make sure there is not a fertile egg hiding somewhere.
One of my levis levis layed an infertile egg, little did I realise that she had also layed a good egg but hidden it well.

FYI - D. vittatus are TSD. Unfortunately, the pair that I had were both males. :-/

As Magpie says - Check around in the substrate for any other egg/s. She may have laid the bad egg away from the good one?

cheers,

Thanks guys!
She did only lay one egg :( . It'll be a long 3-4 weeks until the next ones come. Roughly how many clutches should I expect from her? Nobody said anything about seperating the male though. What do you guys think?
Thanks again!

I had the same sort of problem. My first two clutches from my, first year breeding, female consisted of one fertile and one infertile egg. The subsequent two clutches were both fertile. (unfortunately one young died at the end of the incubation period.)
