Hello, I am new one here. :D

Please I have problems with N.levis female. She was breeding this year her first eggs. After the second clutch one of the eggs stays in her and after 3 week the gecko died.

For the future, is chance to prevent the eggs retention or some curing trics?

Thanks for your experiences.

Hello,
there could be a lot of reasons, perhaps
- she was to young
- she was not feeded well after her first clutch
- she could not find a good place for her eggs
- it was to could for laying her eggs ( it has to be more than 20°C for laying)

levis female dying

My levis levis female died earlier this month as well. She was the biggest and healthiest of my levis, and she died eggbound. This was a double dissapointment for me, so I feel your pain. And I thought she was a perfect breeder female. What kind of egg laying boxes do you guys use for nephrurus levis, amyae, wheeleri, etc? Should it be a box with moist sand? Or vermiculite? Or moss? Thankyou for the help.

Hello,
for laying eggs I use plastic containers with sand mixed with peat moss and vermiculite.

Well I dont know about everyone else but some of my female levis don't like nest boxes in that case i take the female and put her in a seperate tub with one half filled about 6 in deep slope the sand moisten and pack down firm start a small hole like the entrance of a tunnel she will usually use this opening for her tunnel and lay at the bottom. works every time for me you have to watch the female around laying time and see what they like. I learned this approach breeding panther chameleons and that worked for them also. give it a try sry to her that u lost a female eggbound ouch.

A friend of mine uses a small syringe to pulls the liquid out of the eggs, collapsing the egg, which is then passed. It’s saved several eggs bound geckos in his collection over the years. And the geckos don't seem any worst for the procedure.

Best,

Chuck

That sounds like great advise. I have lost lots of stuff because of egg binding. I will definately try using a syringe next time it happens. :D
