i have had my male for 2 years, very nice full tail. i got him a girlfriend 6 months ago and she has a much smaller tail. i assumed it was because she was female but it doesnt make sense and i wonder if she had lost her tail once before. i beleive they are both wild caught.

pictures will come soon but for now everything is missing or packed away, i just moved and we are still unpacking.

There are differences between geckos just like people. Some have bigger tails and others smaller ones. I thought my first male had a big tail until I got the second one whose tail was half again wider. It all just depends on the individual. As long as their tails are not wrinkled or curled/wilted (signs of some health issues) then it is probably normal. It may have been regrown, the easiest way to tell is watch to see if she bends her tail, as regrown tails often lose some function.

my guess is the tail was most likely regrown, in which case it may have grown back a lil stubbier, or perhaps is only partially finished regrowing. normally freshly acquired leaftails will be slightly dehydrated as well, as thrower mentioned, but over time with proper nutrition and hydration the tail should fill out.

good luck.
