Is tail biting normal for male and female U.Milii?

I just picked up a beautiful female U.Milii from the Guys at Reptile City. After 5 mins of introducing the 2, my male is biting her tail. I interupt this as i am very cautious and do not want her do get hurt. Is this normal?

Is this mating behaviour?

Bloody Hell Bugman! Its not an easy affair is it!!???

In your Video:
Its obvious that the darker one is the male but the female is not afraid to fight back is she.

It must be painful. For both of them. Should I expect this sort of controversy all year round or just at the breeding season? So mine would have just kept going if I didnt interupt them? So there is no point in worrying?

It is perfectly normal that the male does this in the breeding season. U. milii males are very keen on reproducing and not subtle in their aproach  I experience that at the end of the breeding season the male again tries to mate with the female (tail biting) and that is the time I separate the animals.

HI Shawn

Tail and neck biting is very normal during the breeding season.
I like to keep a close eye on my female during this time, as I have noticed in the past that the male has actually torn her skin (I therefore separate them for a while for her to recover).

They are kinda funny though as my female is quite big and the male is tiny, so she ends up getting bored with him biting her tail, and ends up dragging the little guy around the tank still attached to her tail!

I have timed around 22 days between egg clutches- so expect eggs in about 3 weeks time. :) (How very exciting!!)

You got that right as this will be my very first time breeding ANY gecko!

I was told that you can put 60 grams vermiculite and 55ml of water into a small plastic container for example, pu the eggs in that and leave them on top of a fridge as the fridge radiates heat. Is this alright? To tall you the truth, I done have an incubater running yet, working on one though.

The one I am working on: It is the box of an ultraviolet sterolizer. I plan to wrap a heat cord around on the inside and just attach a thermostat and set it to the appropriate temp.

Is this Ideal. Can O. Castelnaui, N.Levis levis and U.Milii all be incubated at 28oC :?:

All help would be greatly appreciated :!:

HI Shawn,

I have successfully 'incubated' milii eggs at room temp (damp vermiculite or moss in a sealed container), but Im in Qld. I have also successfully used a heat lamp with a thermostate set up in a wooden box.
There are a number of ways you can make your own incubator - I suggest doing a google search on "home made incubators" to get a few ideas. some people have used old bar fridges with a fan and heating cord, which I believes works very well too.

I ended up getting mine off ebay for half the price one from the manufacturer would have cost me.

And yes, 28C is a good temp for levis and milii.

cheers,
