OMG im stunned

One of our little hatchlings (hatched this sunday) was to get its paper changed this evening...

I picked up the box and took of the lid... I must have spooked her for some reason, course she hissed and then she just DROPED HER TAIL

I didn´t touch her...I didn´t do nothing she just droped the freaking tail the minute she saw me (didn´t think I looked THAT bad  )

The tail was twitching like crazy and she keept hissing like the end of her days was comming!!!

I changed her paper and put her back into a clean box, but should I be doing something extra special for her now that she OBVIOUSLY is not pleased

if it was with other hatchlings it could have happened from one of them.
It must have been coming off and the scare finished it off.

Over the years, I have had two hatchlings drop their tails like that. Every gecko has it's distinct character, and some are just more easily startled than others. It is an automatic response to a mortal threat... the twitching tail would distract a preditor so the hatchling can make it's escape.

You are probably right...Maybe she is just a little hysteria-diva :)

I was just SO stunned... I didnt think they could drop it like that at all...

I will be keeping a extra close eye on her...I have never had one with a missing tail... Hope it will regenerate smoothly

I've had this with a baby as well, I just gave it more attention than the others and started feeding it small wax worms, 1-2cm long/ 1/2 inch (I think) just so that she got enough fat in her due to her tail los which is a fat storage centre. I also noticed her tail/stump growing back quite quickly.

Its so stupid, course now im almost scared of her..hihi... I have been peeking down in the box and making sure that the tail is OK, but im gonna give her some peace.

Im still waiting for her to sheed for the first time... I
This is very unfortunate

:( sorry to hear about the tail

I had read somewhere that if they get too much fat when the tail is regenerating that it can cause the tail to be deformed? Is there truth to this?
