Can someone tell me what is this? Picture was sent to me by my friend and he noticed it few days ago, the leo lost appetite but is not so skinny, leo is 4 months old maybe a bit more and he has been giving him some vitamins and calcium supplement. It looks like his legs are spounge like structure and are not used as before. Some advices and suggestions?

i would advize you to get to a vet,
iv'e never herd of something like this.
what is the substrate in your cage? it looks like they are swolen?
and if there is any type of chemical in there it could be affecting the feet.
is it just the back feet?

I agree. It is Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) due to lack of calcium. The gecko needs to see a vet and get put on a liquid calcium regimine ASAP.

Ok, I also told him that, but he told me that he gets calcium and vits reguralry, thanks all! We don't have any vets for reptiles here. What would you advise to do by ourselves?

provide a small dish of pure calcium in the tank but make sure its pure calcium
with no vit d3 and no phosphorus. If he dont do anything the leo with die a slow painful death.

Sorry Miss Libby, I disagree with the VitD part. Vitamin D helps with the assimilation absorption of the calcium into the gecko's system, so in the case of MBD it would actually be beneficial. I agree that there should be no phosphorous, though.

If possible, try to acquire some liquid calcium and give the gecko about .5ml 2X a day. Also, if this unfortuante gecko is not being housed with the optimal temperatures, it can also contribute to poor calcium metabolization.

if you don't found the calcium with D3 send me a message...i can found the way to send to you by post...but the gecko need to a period with liquid calcium regime...
anyway...leave the dish with calcio and D3 supplemtation in the tank ALWAYS
and what your friend take care of him? witch temperature?...is in a sigle cage?...what he give to him like food?...is for sure from a calcium problem, but many factors can influece the situation...
good luck

He has been keeping it for 2-3 months now and it began few days ago, when he noticed it. He said that temps were about 30 so it is ok, with coller end and single in its terrarium, big enough with paper towels and water, ofcourse hide was there. Food was mealworms and crickets and they were supplemented with calcium and some vitamins.

What else can couse MBD? What are you thinking marula with "many factors"?

Thanks in advance!

to much d3 can be toxic and cause more harm, you could simply get a uv bulb and that would help produce the d3. i do agree with the liquid calcium. but not with the d3 in the calcium always. dont poison the poor thing with a toxic vitamin when there are safer ways to get d3. I have
liquid calcium and could send a vial full if nessesary.

I appriciate your help guys, but I think it is not possible to send it to Serbia, right? Anyway I should try to get it from some friend abroad. He gave them some other calcium, because we don't have some specially made for reptiles, so we use some which has good ingridients.

I would not worry about this gecko getting too much VitD3 in it's present condition. Also, it is extremely rare for nocturnal species to develop hypervitaminosis D, and since leos are notruntal, their skin and eyes are not adapted to synthesize UV rays at all.

Well i guess your right about the uv light and it does need something but it
would become toxic if it were used everyday. Im not saying not to give it
vitamin d3 im just saying after a decent amount is ingested the pure calcium
should be used as the daily supplement. even to much calcium is not good
for leos. And who says i cant send it to serbia? you have mail dont you?
I also have a female with mbd. i recieved her in this condition so i use the
liquid calcium once in a while to insure her well being. If you give me an
address i will ask the postmaster if it will get to you.
