Hey guys,

I'm watching my friend Michael's reptiles for him while he's on vacation, and among them are a pair of quadriocellata. I'll never understand why these things are not more popular - along with the rest of the Phelsumas... :?

Here's a pic I snapped a couple of days ago and thought was nice:

I can't believe more people aren't working with these beauties - especially since they come in so cheap as WC's!

A friend the owns a reptile store just 1.3 in and they are looking pretty nice. The price is either 40-50 a piece. You mind tell me how you keep them, general husbandry and if they do better in groups or pairs?

Thanks
Danny

well, the main thing is that you dont KNOW of the people who DO keep them ;) hehe. I help out on a phelsuma devoted forum, and it is uberactive, and exceedingly popular. Also, the two main reasons people don't keep them is that they are known for their difficulty to sustain in captivity, and their condition from wc. also, breeding is not always easy (though easier im sure than some others, eg Uroplatus or some austrailan nobbies)

I think the reason theirs not alot is because people over look phelsuma. They hear that their delicate and fast and turn their nose. But in my exsperience their skin really isnt that delicate. But they are super fast. But you learn how to deal with them and catch them.
And another thing is.Their not highly sought after and dont carry a high dollar. So people dont want that. Most people want to make back what they put in.
That just my thought.

I want to respond to this part, but I don't know how to do it without being mean. Let me just say that you guys on that "Phelsuma devoted" forum in Europe get really old, really quick. I'd rather not know anyone that works with quadriocellata than spend time conversing with those obnoxious people. You and HUNDO excluded.

hhaha, yeah. i usppose so, these people are entirely devoted, meaning they're really not interested in other geckos, but i suppose you're right, they can be obnoxious. I shall try to minimize that :p Do tell me if you find another one, I'd be most interested.

Before we get too far off on european forums and what not, anyone mind answering my Q's pertaining towards husbandry.

Thanks

very basic day gecko to keep and breed and common ......period.....
looks good joe..Thats one thing i cant stand is when people are rude, these forums are to help each other and for enjoyment. Everyone wasnt always a so called "pro".. this is the only hobby that ive ever been invloved with that people dont like to help and all they want to do is brag and horde the geckos they have.
most of the stuff i know about keeping and breeding i learned the hard way because these web sites werent avaible when i started out,, so if i can ever help someone feel free to ask.Im not claiming to know everything but it will be based on my experinces and im not afraid to ask questions myself i still need a ton of questions answewred daily..
so to all the people who shoot down noobies or so called bad questions shame on you because you never no when someone might pass you by with geckos and knowledge aboout them...
sorry but thats how i feel about this subject
