Hey Everyone,
I am having problems with my 1.1 U. milii. About 5 weeks ago I noticed my female is really thin. Her tail is as thick as a hatchling Leopard Gecko(very thin). So I seperated her, she is still in the same condition, and eating only a couple crickets a week. Now I notcied today the male is getting thin as well. So I moved him from his "natural" set up, to going in my baby rack with paper towel, and a simple set up(my female is in the same set up, but different bin). He is not yet at the stage where my female is, he still have some fat in his tail. But does anyone have any idea what the problem is? I would like this to get solved ASAP before it gets any worse. Any ideas and suggestions are greatly apprecatied.
Thanks
-Steve

I'd take them to the vet if you want to know the exact problem. It is the best hope for their survival. Sounds like they may have been infected with some type of parasite. I'm sorry to hear that your geckos are sick, I'll be pulling for them both. Hopefully someone else here can help out with some more info, but it is difficult to diagnose without seeing the gecko or having certain tests done. Maybe a fecal test would determine the cause of the problem. Best of luck to you...

Thanks for your help Oli. Nathan(geckoboy) and I were talking last night and he too thought it could be a parasite. Does anyone have any ideas on how get rid of parasites?
Thanks

Hiya Steve

First of all are you cooling them, if not what temps are they being kept at? Do the stools look ok - take a stool test to the vet to check for protozoas & possibly worms.

I wouldn't automatically jump to parasites as being the problem, occassionally problems tend to come up in the husbandry.
i.e. Heat stressed - which Milli are prone to get.

If cooling how old are these Milli?

Are they shedding ok - I always have believe that reptiles are similar to cats - if a cats unwell it tends not to clean its self, if a reptiles unwell or not under the right conditions they tend to not shed very well. Varies from specimen to specimen but from a general rule I have found this to be the case.

Hope it all works out for you.

Cheers

Hi Ari,
Thanks for your help. In my reptile unit I kept them in, the temps were around 85F. Now in my baby rack they are kept at around 81F.

I was cooling them, but I finished that about a week ago, and they are around 5-6 months old.

Stools seem ok, not as large though. They are also sheding fine.

Thanks
-Steve

Taking a stool smple to the vet for a fecal exam is the only way to 1.) identiry IF and WHAT type of parasite ther may be, and 2.) administering the proper treatment. Different parasites require different medication protocol.

Sorry, my main comp is down so I havent been able to post pics or reply to this thread. Should I attempt force feeding?
-Steve

Force feeding is definitely a last result and can result in the immediate death of your animals from stress. Have you obtained fecal samples to be examined?
