Hi. Im probably going to get a breeding pair of Gold-dust day geckos and Im somewhat new to the world of Phelsuma. Ive had many differnt Rhacs ,expecially Cresteds, for a while and I heard that day geckos are somewhat simmular in care except that rhacs are nocturnal and days are diurnal. I was wondering if Phelsuma will acept baby food mixed with crested gecko diet like my rhacs do and if a 10 gallon will be big enough for a breeding pair of Gold-dust day geckos. Thanks! :D

ok,
well I have been breeding ciliatus and auriculatus for almost 4 years now. I would say that Rhacs and Phelsuma aren't too similar in care. I keep my Phelsuma much more humid, depends on species, then Rhacs. I also keep my Phelsuma in verticaly oriented terrariums. I would not use a normal 10 gallon for Phelsuma, but thats just me. The temps are also very different, depending on the species of Phelsuma. I keep my klemmeri much warmer then my Rhacodactylus. The feeding is similar, I use clarks and day gecko diet, along with various insects. I NEVER use baby food, as it is inferior to other MRPs available for Rhacodactylus, but baby food for Phelsuma ins't as bad as it is for Rhacs. Also, UV lighting isnt required for Phelsuma, but I have had good sucsess with it, I also use it on a few of my Rhac cages as well. Phelsuma are very rewarding and great display herps, and laticuada are gorgeous!

Good luck.
I dont have any laticuada experience, so someone who does should post.
Hopefully Jeff and other Rhac/Phelsuma breeders will post soon as well.

This is one of my favorite Phelsuma species period!
Phelsuma laticuada care is very simple.A 10 gallon will do a pair very well.Vertical or horizontal.
They eat crickets, roaches, wax worms, meal worms, clarks diet, crested gecko diet,Phelsuma diet, baby food. They will eat it all. They like it in the mid 80s to low 90s.Like Peter said,UVB is not required, but its very good for them and they show much more vibrant colors with uvb. They like to have a nice horizontal bamboo to sit on and bask as well as some plants in their and some other peices of bamboo, nice big hallow ones are good to put in their for the female to lay her eggs in,which she will usually lay 2 hard shelled eggs.Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions.
