I had a few knobtails die about a month ago, and the examination of my collection revealed high levels of E. Coli and Serratia Marcesens, two different bacteria that occur naturally but are harmless under normal conditions. They are "opportunistic bacteria" as they take the opportunity to multiply if the immune system is comprimised (by stress, etc) or exposed to high levels of these bacteria and they are ingested.
Treatment consists of a calcium supplement and food supplement (Insectivore(c) ), and a daily dose of 0.01 cc's of the anti-biotic Enroflaxacian. I also give them the pro-biotic Benebac to help maintain the health of the digestive tract during the course of anti-biotics.
Below is a picture of my favorite, who, unfortunately, was among the casualties.
