Hi guys

When I got my PMG the guy in the shop said that he thought she may be pregnant. Now I'm giving her plenty calcium, and she has little calcium pouches, but how can i tell for sure that she is?

ALSO

The female is slipping down the glass of the viv, and i'm concerned. Why would she be slipping? What can I do??

Eggs will be readily visible from their underside and appear as to oval bulges. As she gets closer to laying (If she is indeed gravid), the eggs will become more noticable. As a side note, Endolymphatic sacs are reportedly not an indication of whether or not the Phelsuma has adequate [and readily accessible] reserves of calcium, since some keepers have inexperienced mortality attributed to a calcium deficiency.

Failure to "adhere" to smooth objects is usually an indicator of stuck shed on the feet or the animal is getting ready to shed.

Thank you!

She was okay when we first got her so maybe she will shed soon. We keep snakes, do they have a pre-lay shed like snakes do, and if so, what are the approximate times between the shed and lay. Also, will she prefer to lay in Sanseveria or bamboo, or something else?

Will we take the eggs out as soon as she lays? Is there anything else we should do? It's difficult to find good care sheets..

Thank you for your care sheet.

Can you show me a picture of your incubator? do you use heat mat or lamp to keep the eggs warm?

Hiya

I dont have permission to view images in that forum.. you could msn them to me? What other option do i have though, as a tank with submersible heater is just not possible here. what about plastic box, heat mat, cups etc inside?

I'll post that incubator pic on here later when i get home from work (if i remember).

As far as incubators go, you could do the ole styrofoam cooler and heat pad. There are all kinds of "build your own incubator" instructions online. Just google it and you'll come up with all kinds of ideas.

Basically you just care about the temps and humidity. If you can get those right it really doesn't matter how you do it. There are tons of different ways that work for people.

Do I have to answer using the metric system?

I don't know, I mean it's a matter of opinion really... maybe 60-80cm tall and 50cm wide and 50cm long should do it. Larger is better, but a little smaller would work too. Part of it depends on the pair's compatibility.

Well they're in 45x45x45 at the mo, we know they need taller, but they get along okay and have hidey places too.

So new taller viv asap..

Why do you think they are so pale, is the UV not good enough?

That cage is big enough for a little while... if you want to upgrade them you can get a taller tank.

They might be pale because they are a bit stressed from moving around, but honestly some grandis are just prettier than others. There is tremendous variation in color and patter in the madagascariensis complex. They could be integrades with mad mads or something else, who knows?

I really really hammer mine with UV, so you could try that... but all you can really do is set them up as nice as possible and give them a few days to settle in. If they have everything they need, they will show off their best colors before long. It may be though that their best colors are not very good. I can't say for sure, but I would guess that their greens will brighten up a lot, but the red will remain reduced.
