repotting plants?

What soil do you guys use to repot/pot plants that is gecko-safe? Can I get away with just using peat moss? I don't have a green thumb at all, so any help is appreciated. I've used straight peat moss with Pothos in the past, but should I add anything else to the mix? I'm going to add some creeping fig to my Goniurosaurus enclosures and don't trust the soil in the pots from the nursery.

I generally re-pot plants with plain sphagnum peat moss (horticulture grade) and sometimes add in orchid bark depending on plant sp. Have had plants do well for years this way, even without chemical or organic fertilization. Shouldn't be a problem...

Nathan,

Go to The Natural Gardener on Old Bee Caves Rd. -- they have great soil. I use a 50/50 mix of coco fiber and either the bag-it-yourself Hill Country Garden Soil (cheaper) or the already bagged (1 cu ft). Both are the same (Lady Bug Brand) and do not contain cedar. However, their potting soil does contain cedar. I've never had to fertilize as of yet - 10 months and plants are thriving. Even though it's organic I still heat it up to 350F for 30 minutes. Also, their indoor tropical room is AMAZING. 90% of my vivarium plants come from there.
They also have organic long-fiber sphagnum moss which I use in nest boxes -- 2 cu. ft. bag for only 20 bucks.

I've experimented by adding a little sand (also from the NG) to the mix but the plants just don't do as well.

Also, for Live Tropical moss, T and C Terrariums in Fla. http://home.att.net/~a.j.calisi/
uses organic soil for the base. I ordered 2 sq. ft. ($25 total incl. s/h) and this stuff arrived just thriving and months later still is. I've even got ferns growing out of it now!

There's another gardening place right there on Quadalupe that has the Lady Bug Brand if you don't want to drive all the way down to Southwest Pkwy.

Sarah.
